ITU World Sprint Championship Qualifier
2009 will be a special year for the Pacific Coast Triathlon. This years’ race will, for the second time, be the USATriathlon National Sprint Championship. We will also be the sole Qualifier for the 1st ITU World Sprint Championship that will be held in Australia on Sept. 12th, 2009. This year's race will be held on Sunday July 26th at beautiful Crystal Cove State Park in Newport Beach, CA. The picturesque race course features an ocean swim, a bike course along a rolling three mile stretch of PCH, and a run that follows the bluff along with a ½ mile segment on the beach that takes you through the historic cottages of Crystal Cove.
The PCT has been honored by Competitor & Inside Triathlon magazines as one of the top races in the United States.
Over the past ten years Pelican Coast Events, LLC has donated in excess of $265,000 to Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Irvine and Laguna Beach youth oriented charities, including the Boy Scouts and local high school & college sports teams. In 2008 CAF received more than $30,000 through the Pacific Coast Triathlon.
We plan to continue this tradition.
On Saturday July 25th we will have a Sports & Fitness Expo at Reef Point Parking Lot, across from Crystal Cove Promenade. Athletes will pick up their numbers, commemorative high tech Avia shirts and our distinctive posters featuring the art of Jeff Horn.
The quality that the Pacific Coast Triathlon is known for is always our guiding purpose. With that in mind, our plans for 2009 will emphasize the Age Group Athletes battling it out for National Championship titles. Our revamped finish line area will again provide better spectator viewing.
The Age Group competition will be the focal point of the day and the Kid’s Fun Race will finish off the celebration of health & fitness that the community has come to enjoy. USATriathlon will also be selecting their Junior Team at the PCT.
Philadelphia Insurance Co. will continue as our Presenting Sponsor and assist in raising funds for CAF. We expect to attract many more corporate relays and challenged athletes to the 2009 event.
We invite you to sign up for the 2009 Pacific Coast Triathlon. Please don’t forget to consider doing our O.C. Duathlon schedule for Saturday May 30th and our 2nd Orange County International Triathlon to be held at Lake Mission Viejo on Sunday September 27th, 2009. We are offering a $40 discount for those who sign up for the whole series. For more information on both races go to www.octri.com.
See you there,
